So, I’ve been on a two-week hiatus after data assignments, birthday celebrations and going home!
I decided to go back to London on Tuesday, to surprise my mum for her birthday – and yeah I did get a “wtf are you doing here?!”- priceless.
As our birthdays are only two days apart, I decided to book an afternoon tea at Sketch, Mayfair to celebrate!
The gallery room, where afternoon tea is held, is the pink velvet haven that you see all over Instagram. And it’s honestly just as pretty in real life. The walls are covered in humorous art by David Shrigley that my mother enjoyed reading.
FYI – plesse excuse the weird orange tint and crap quality of the photos, lighting was strange!
There are four pages of tea to choose from and were happy to cater for any dietary requirements (e.g. veg, no eggs or gelatin). A starter of egg and soldiers is followed by a tiered platter of pastries and sandwiches, then fresh scones and slices of cake. The sugar overload is a bit much, but they’re all so yummy. We were so full, but anything you don’t finish you can take away with you!
You can order as much tea as you like and reorder any food, they recommend two teas over the afternoon – definitely get the green Jasmine teas!
And yes, all of that tea does mean that you have to pop to the loo.. but when they’re space-aged eggs and disco ceilings who can complain?
It’s not cheap, as prices start from £58pp, but it is great for special occasions! It’s such a weird and quirky place, I’d definitely recommend going once – providing that you’re into pink.
